This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Take full ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and deliver constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by troubleshooting technical challenges.
• Standardize solutions within the team and streamline redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are thoroughly tested, clear, and reusable.
• Propel changes in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining the underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes to the left by enhancing automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions and guide team focus on unresolved decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and ensure nightly builds are available for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or ownership of major projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing frameworks.
• Proven experience in deploying and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• Acknowledgment of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of a contribution to a team that continued after your involvement, along with a candid account of the costs incurred to achieve that outcome.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging behavioral changes in colleagues and managing the resultant friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that have been actively utilized by the team, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• Strong intuition for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
