This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and execute thorough tax strategies for real estate transactions, encompassing acquisitions, dispositions, entity structuring, and 1031 exchanges.

• Advise on and apply depreciation strategies (MACRS, bonus depreciation, Section 179) and conduct or review cost segregation studies to optimize deductions.

• Prepare and review filings for accounting method changes (Form 3115) related to depreciation, cost segregation, and transitions from accrual to cash.

• Analyze and provide guidance on passive activity loss regulations, material participation assessments, and determinations of real estate professional status.

• Assess capitalization versus expense treatment of development and operational costs under IRC §263A, ensuring proper classification of deductible and capitalizable expenses.

• Oversee the preparation and review of intricate tax returns for partnerships, corporations, individuals, and trusts, ensuring precision, compliance, and efficiency.

• Manage partnership tax compliance, including special allocations, capital accounts, basis tracking, Section 754 elections, and K-2/K-3 reporting.

• Provide advice on the tax implications of leasehold improvements, tenant allowances, and business interest expense limitations under Section 163(j).

• Identify and apply relevant federal and state tax credits and incentives, including energy-related deductions such as Section 179D, while conducting tax research to support client positions and maintain compliance with current regulations.

• Lead and manage client engagements by upholding high-quality standards, identifying inefficiencies, and improving service delivery.

• Mentor junior staff through training, performance feedback, and initiatives for career development.

• Cultivate strong client relationships and collaborate with firm leadership on strategic projects and initiatives.


⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is mandatory.

• A minimum of 5-8+ years of experience in public accounting with a focus on preparing and reviewing tax returns.

• A master's degree in accounting, tax, or a related field is preferred.

• CPA or EA license is required.

• Proficiency in tax preparation software and financial analysis tools is essential.

• Strong command of Microsoft Office, Adobe, and accounting software (CCH products; ProSystems and FX Engagement).

• Extensive knowledge of real estate taxation, including passive activity rules, real estate professional status, and developer/investor-specific tax regulations.

• Solid understanding of depreciation methods (MACRS, bonus depreciation, Section 179, QIP) and cost segregation applications.

• Familiarity with accounting method changes (Form 3115), capitalization versus expense rules (IRC §263A), and the treatment of leasehold improvements.

• Proficient in partnership taxation, including complex allocations, capital accounts, basis tracking, debt-financed distributions, Section 754 elections, and K-2/K-3 reporting.

• Knowledgeable about business interest expense limitations under Section 163(j) and energy-related incentives such as Section 179D.

• Capable of analyzing complex tax issues and devising creative, compliant solutions.

• Strong research capabilities to interpret evolving tax laws and apply them to client-specific situations.

• Ability to mentor, train, and support the professional development of junior staff.

• Skilled at establishing and maintaining strong client relationships, fostering trust, and identifying growth opportunities.

• Collaborative mindset with a history of partnering with senior leaders on strategic tax initiatives.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex tax matters clearly to clients and team members.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements, deadlines, and deliverables concurrently.
