This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +4 more states.
• Lead the daily operations of the Tax Department to ensure effective service delivery and achievement of departmental objectives.
• Supervise tax compliance processes and oversee tax return production to guarantee timely completion of engagements and adherence to filing deadlines.
• Collaborate with Tax Principals and Managers to manage workload capacity, track project status, and allocate resources across the department.
• Foster process improvement, standardization, and operational efficiency to boost productivity, quality, and client satisfaction.
• Track key performance indicators such as utilization, realization, profitability, turnaround times, and overall department performance.
• Assist in tax season preparation, workforce forecasting, scheduling strategies, and workload distribution to meet business requirements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop team members while nurturing a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous enhancement.
• Advocate for the use of technology, automation, reporting tools, and AI-enabled solutions to optimize operations and enhance visibility.
• Collaborate with firm leadership and cross-functional teams to align staffing, budgeting, and operational priorities with business goals.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, talent development, and compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in public accounting, tax operations, tax administration, tax compliance management, or professional services operations, including experience in supporting tax service delivery and departmental performance.
• Preferred: Previous experience in a tax practice operations leadership role such as Tax Operations Director, Tax Practice Administrator, Tax Practice Manager, Tax Operations Manager, or a similar position.
• Preferred: Practical experience with tax practice management and workflow platforms like CCH Axcess, Workflow/XCM, SafeSend, Aiwyn, Beeye, or comparable systems.
• Preferred: Experience in supporting a large, multi-office, or complex tax practice with various service lines, specialized practice areas, shared resources, or significant seasonal capacity demands.
• Preferred: CPA, EA, or JD preferred, but not required, if the candidate possesses substantial tax operations leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of tax compliance operations, engagement lifecycle management, filing deadlines, extensions, work-in-process management, billing processes, and public accounting firm tax practices.
• Experience in managing operational workflows, capacity planning, scheduling, workload balancing, resource planning, and process execution in a professional services environment.
• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, revenue and profitability metrics, utilization, realization, and operational decision-making.
• Experience utilizing practice management, workflow, reporting, dashboard, or similar systems to oversee work, deadlines, capacity, and department performance.
• Proven track record in leading process improvement, standardization, technology adoption, automation, or AI-enabled workflow initiatives that enhance efficiency, quality, accountability, and the overall team or client experience.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with firm leadership, People Operations, Finance, Resource Management, Client Success, IT, Marketing/Business Development, and other stakeholders to support departmental and firm initiatives.
• Proven experience in guiding, coaching, and holding team members accountable for performance, quality, service standards, workflow milestones, and deadlines.
• Strong analytical, communication, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the capability to manage multiple priorities and support sound operational decisions.
