Surgical Coder – Spine Specialty

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut.

📋 Description

• The Surgical Coder for Spine is tasked with the precise and compliant coding of intricate orthopedic spine procedures across various healthcare settings.

• Code high-complexity spine procedures, including but not limited to fusions, decompressions, instrumentation, and revisions.

• Ensure all documentation is thorough and compliant.

• Assign codes for reimbursements, while adhering to research and compliance with regulatory mandates using established guidelines.

• Abide by coding conventions and guarantee the accurate assignment of CPT codes, including add-on codes, modifiers, and bundling rules.

• Confirm levels, laterality, and approach (anterior/posterior).

• Detect missed billable components such as additional levels, hardware, and biologics.

• Request clarification from providers regarding any unclear, unspecified, or incomplete documentation.

• Implement payer-specific coding rules and edits.

• Investigate, analyze, and propose corrective plans for discrepancies to avert future coding errors.

⛳️ Requirements

• CPC, CCS, or an equivalent certification from AAPC or AHIMA.

• Over 5 years of experience in surgical coding.

• At least 3 years dedicated to spine surgery coding.

• Profound understanding of NCCI edits and bundling regulations.

• Proficient in modifier usage, including 22, 25, 50, 51, 57, 59, 62, and 76.

• Knowledge of spine-specific CPT coding nuances.

• Familiarity with documentation requirements for Evaluation and Management services.

• Experience with orthopedic or multi-specialty groups is preferred.

• Strong organizational skills.
