Surgical Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assess operative reports and clinical documentation to assign correct CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes.

• Ensure the precise application of modifiers and compliance with payer-specific coding standards.

• Confirm that all coded data supports medical necessity and complies with regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, AMA, and payer-specific policies).

• Request clarification or additional documentation from physicians when necessary.

• Stay updated on coding guidelines, compliance obligations, and regulatory changes.

• Collaborate with billing, compliance, and revenue cycle teams to address coding and claim-related issues.

• Engage in internal audits and quality assurance evaluations.

• Achieve productivity and accuracy targets set by the department.

• Safeguard patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

• At least 3 years of experience in surgical coding (ambulatory surgery, hospital outpatient, or inpatient) is preferred.

• Required certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – AAPC, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) – AHIMA, or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) – AAPC.

• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.

• Proficient in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.

• Familiar with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.

• High attention to detail with the capability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

• Proficiency in the EclinicalWorks (eCW) EMHR system is preferred.

• Thorough knowledge of OB/GYN terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

• Proven experience coding OB global packages, deliveries, gynecological surgeries, and related procedures.
