This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +15 more states.
• Capable of understanding medical record documentation to correctly assign codes for both concurrent and discharged accounts across various specialties.
• Achieves the minimum production and quality standards on a monthly basis.
• Requires knowledge of code sequencing for grouper-related payers, with a focus on detail to minimize rework and waste through charge capture assessment.
• Requires comprehension and application of M.E.A.T. criteria (monitoring, evaluation, assessment, treatment) utilizing the ICD 10 CM transaction data set to document diagnoses.
• Evaluates high-risk encounters to identify accurate and/or missing charge gaps before the encounter is finalized (e.g., missing charges from anesthesia or surgery) during manual charge capture.
• Understands the complexities of billing requirements and integrates payer-specific trends into daily reviews to decrease “take backs” linked to ambiguous or unverified care provided (e.g., different modifier applications for EAPG versus Non-EAPG payer specifics).
• Requires strong coding knowledge of ICD 10 CM, CPT 4, and modifier application, with the expectation to maintain certification (e.g., CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA) and adhere to ICD 10 CM Coding Guidelines for both inpatient and outpatient encounters.
• Facilitates enhancements to clinical documentation through query interactions to ensure that the captured information reflects the level of service provided, with a focus on chronic conditions, hierarchical condition categories (HCC), and risk adjustment factors (RAF).
• Exhibits proficient knowledge of hospital information systems to extract data-specific information (e.g., order diagnosis, patient type) within a complex filing structure that includes non-hospital data (e.g., Media Tab, Office Visits, etc).
• A minimum of an Associate's degree is required.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and Physiology is necessary.
• One of the following certifications is mandatory: CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, COC (please include this on your resume).
