This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
β’ Oversees the coding team and supports the management group in daily department operations related to reimbursement, coding, abstracting, productivity, quality, and training.
β’ Ensures that coding backlogs, work queues, and charge lag are maintained at acceptable levels.
β’ Serves as a coding expert for coders, providers, the revenue cycle, as well as specialty groups and meetings.
β’ Manages coding personnel, which includes interviewing, hiring, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and conducting performance evaluations in collaboration with management.
β’ Develops and keeps coding-related policies, procedures, and training materials updated in partnership with management.
β’ Identifies budgetary requirements and upholds fiscal responsibility.
β’ Conducts and/or supervises internal and external audits to ensure compliance with medical record documentation, coding, and billing standards.
β’ Collaborates with staff to analyze and resolve issues affecting coding and billing processes.
β’ Maintains effective, transparent, and ongoing communication.
β’ Extracts, analyzes, and reports data to the relevant management team.
β’ Acts as a liaison to vendors, providing feedback and testing information systems.
β’ Provides assistance in staff coding as required.
β’ High School Diploma or equivalent.
β’ Current HIM/Coding Certification from one of the following: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
β’ A minimum of five (5) years of medical coding experience.
β’ An Associate's degree or higher in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred.
β’ Previous clinical experience as an RN, LPN, or Medical Assistant is highly desirable.
β’ Extensive knowledge in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, MS-DRG, HCC, and APR-DRG assignments for hospital supervisory roles, as well as multi-specialty coding, E&M coding, procedural/surgical coding, and familiarity with governmental billing and coding regulations, including the 'Teaching Physician Guidelines' for Professional Coding Supervisors.
β’ Prior supervisory or project management experience is preferred.
β’ A preference for seven (7) years of medical coding experience.
β’ Standard office environment.
