Substation Utility Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Overall responsibility for coordinating all technical activities on the assigned projects.

• Engage with clients to foster new business opportunities and maintain current business relationships.

• Ensure that all personnel involved in the project are synchronizing their activities with other participants and that project requirements are being met.

• Monitor work for adherence to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices.

• Provide leadership to the substation engineering function by establishing clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards.

• Establish accountability for project execution, safety, quality, timelines, and budgets while aligning team efforts with organizational and regulatory goals.

• Review and validate engineering deliverables to guarantee compliance with industry standards, utility practices, safety requirements, and regulatory codes.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers by promoting a collaborative and high-performing work atmosphere.

• Plan, allocate, and manage engineering resources across projects and operational needs to ensure effective workload distribution and timely delivery.

• Ensure adherence to established engineering processes, utility standards, safety protocols, and quality management systems.

• Act as a Subject Matter Expert in one or more of the following areas: Substation Physical Design, Protection and Controls, Comms/SCADA.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

• Over 10 years of experience in the Substation or Power Distribution sector.

• Proficient knowledge of substation configurations, system protection, power system analysis, renewable generation, utility interconnections, and renewable project development.

• Familiarity with SCADA systems and communication protocols is essential.

• A Professional Engineer License is highly preferred.

• Willingness to travel 10-30% of the time for client visits and project site evaluations.
