This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Collaborate within a project team alongside engineers and other designers focusing on high- and extra-high-voltage substation design.
• Prepare and conduct thorough reviews of substation general arrangements, electrical equipment plans, section views/elevations, bills of material, lightning stroke shielding plans, grounding plans, conduit/raceway plans, and control-building plans and sections.
• Conduct technical reviews of project team feedback on vendor design deliverables, coordinate the incorporation of comments, and consolidate and resolve feedback.
• Lead site walkdowns, collect data at client facilities, interact with clients and contractors, and perform constructability assessments.
• Identify relevant codes and standards, guide their application, and ensure designs comply with codes, client standards, and established practices.
• Contribute to the improvement of company quality standards and processes.
• Mentor and guide designers, drafters, and project stakeholders in the use of design and drafting tools.
• Review and supervise the production of design deliverables.
• Provide technical direction on calculations, gather necessary inputs, and independently prepare and review these calculations.
• Create cost-effective design solutions.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to gather design inputs and support an integrated design approach.
• Execute work plans within budget and schedule while steering the project team towards objectives.
• Assign and oversee the technical work of designated staff.
• Offer performance feedback and manage routine performance and personnel matters for assigned staff.
• An Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• Over 15 years of experience in substation physical design.
• Advanced proficiency in computer drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
• Ability to visualize equipment details, phase-to-ground, and phase-to-phase clearances.
• Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to conceptualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
• Familiarity with Bentley Substation, Inventor SDS, and BlueBeam.
• Knowledgeable in ground-based Lidar techniques and converting point cloud information to vector formats.
• Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles necessary for producing technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the capacity to relate various equipment to a technical design.
• Candidates must be citizens of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations due to potential access to U.S. export-controlled information.
