This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky.

📋 Description

• The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Course Developer is tasked with the creation and design of high-quality academic course content for the accelerated online academic programs at Kentucky State University.

• In collaboration with instructional designers and academic leadership, the SME crafts engaging, academically robust, and accessible online learning experiences that adhere to university standards, program learning outcomes, accreditation requirements, and relevant federal and state regulations.

• This role is project-based and does not entail instructional responsibilities unless specifically appointed.

• Develop comprehensive online courses that align with approved program and course learning outcomes, which includes creating syllabi, measurable learning objectives, instructional materials, lectures, readings, learning activities, discussion prompts, and assessments.

• Design authentic assessments—including papers, projects, examinations, presentations, and grading rubrics—that effectively evaluate student learning and competency achievement.

• Collaborate with instructional designers to prepare course materials for asynchronous online delivery utilizing the University's learning management system, while integrating accessibility standards and effective online instructional practices.

• Ensure that course content reflects contemporary scholarship, professional standards, and best practices in the industry.

• Complete curriculum mapping and other necessary documentation to support institutional assessment and accreditation requirements.

• Integrate practical applications, case studies, and learning activities suitable for adult learners.

• Engage in course review and revision processes by incorporating feedback from academic leadership, instructional designers, and peer reviewers.

• Ensure all instructional materials adhere to copyright, fair use, accessibility, licensing, and intellectual property regulations.

• Submit finalized course materials in accordance with established development timelines and project milestones.

• Maintain the confidentiality of University information and course development materials.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A graduate degree in the relevant discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required.

• A terminal degree may be necessary depending on the specific academic program and accreditation criteria.

• Proven subject matter expertise through graduate-level teaching, scholarly research, publications, professional experience, or a combination of education and experience.

• Experience in teaching or developing graduate-level curriculum is essential.

• Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to create high-quality instructional materials.

• Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technologies is required.

• Capability to independently manage projects and adhere to established deadlines.

• Expertise in one or more of the following disciplines is essential: Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Management, Government Administration, Government Studies, Public Sector Management, Political Science, Master of Public Administration, Civic Leadership, Public Health, Master of Public Health, Community Health, Health Policy and Management, Health Systems Management, Social Determinants of Health, Aerospace and Defense, Military Science, Aeronautics, National Security Studies, Homeland Security, Security Studies, Sports Analytics, Sports Science, Sports Business Analytics, Sports Informatics.

• This role is temporary and not eligible for University benefits.

• Compensation will be provided upon the successful completion of course development as per the executed development agreement.

• Course development assignments do not guarantee future teaching positions or ongoing engagements with Kentucky State University.

• All course materials created under this appointment will become the exclusive property of Kentucky State University upon completion and payment in accordance with University policy and the relevant development agreement.
