Structural Engineering Department Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership, oversee departmental management, and supervise project execution for structural engineering tasks related to various heavy industrial and infrastructure initiatives.

• Organize, schedule, direct, and evaluate all resources and activities within the structural engineering department to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.

• Engage in the development of new business opportunities and the expansion of existing ones.

• Act as a technical liaison to enhance customer support and aid regional business development efforts as a technical resource.

• Recruit staff, set individual goals and expectations, and perform performance evaluations.

• Guide, develop, and supervise all direct reports while providing technical oversight.

• Create and implement operational plans for the structural engineering department regarding staffing, workload management, tools, resources, and the enhancement of technical skill sets.

• Formulate and execute policies, standards, procedures, and quality control measures for structural engineering and technical work conducted within the department.

• Lead projects of varying durations, focusing on long-term planning while also delivering leadership in a dynamic engineering environment that demands quick turnaround times.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related field with a structural focus.

• A PE license is mandatory.

• At least ten years of relevant engineering experience is essential, with a preference for candidates who have worked in heavy industrial settings.

• Technical proficiency and/or expertise in various areas of structural engineering, including but not limited to structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, foundations, pipe supports, equipment supports, platforms, access structures, industrial buildings, and relevant structural design codes and standards.

• Proven experience in leadership positions managing engineering teams and/or departments is required, ideally within a consulting engineering context.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with both clients and engineering personnel are essential.

• Candidates should possess a comprehensive understanding and proficiency in the use of current software tools, including business enterprise and project management applications, as well as structural analysis, design, drafting, and document review software.
