This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Conduct field observations and inspections of structural components of buildings and various structures.
• Act as a Special Inspector as defined by the International Building Code for relevant projects designed by the company or other firms.
• Generate clear, well-structured inspection reports.
• Support project design teams as necessary based on project requirements.
• Analyze and assess field conditions and laboratory findings.
• Carry out job site visits and document pertinent field conditions through photographs for report purposes.
• Record observations, project inconsistencies, and coordinate with the Structural Engineer of Record (SEoR) to facilitate remedial actions.
• Examine shop drawings and provide feedback to the SEoR for review and approval.
• Aid with requests for information (RFIs), interpretation of test outcomes, and contractor change orders.
• An associate degree or certificate in Engineering, or equivalent, is preferred.
• No prior experience is necessary, although 1 year of experience is preferred; previous experience in structural inspection or the building design consulting sector is advantageous.
• Current possession of, or a desire to obtain, a recognized certification in Structural Inspection (e.g., ICC General Requirements, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Masonry, ICC Structural Steel and Bolting, ICC Structural Welding, ICC Master of Special Inspections, and/or AWS-Certified Weld Inspector) is preferred.
• Capability to read and comprehend construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
• Ability to manage and organize one’s own schedule to ensure timely service delivery on all assigned projects.
• Capacity to work effectively in a collaborative team atmosphere.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to embrace new challenges.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
