Strategic Cloud Engineer – GCP Platform, FinOps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Madagascar.

📋 Description

• Enhance GCP cloud expenditures by implementing rightsizing, autoscaling, workload optimization, cost distribution, and utilization analysis.

• Create cost-observability dashboards utilizing Grafana, BigQuery, and billing exports.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design cost-effective solutions.

• Manage GKE and multi-cluster Kubernetes environments, covering aspects such as cluster lifecycle, upgrades, node pools, scaling, ingress, domain routing, secrets, environment variables, and service deployments.

• Oversee multi-tenant SaaS customer lifecycle infrastructure events.

• Lead and refine Terraform provisioning processes.

• Assist in the support and optimization of GitLab CI/CD rollout pipelines.

• Automate the customer provisioning process and configure environments.

• Manage platform services and monitoring tools including VictoriaMetrics, StatsD, Grafana, Google Cloud Monitoring, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Apache Airflow.

• Diagnose issues within distributed systems and resolve production incidents.

• Provision and retire instances, map domains, and maintain infrastructure across providers such as Hetzner.

• Take part in an on-call rotation.

• Leverage AI-assisted tools and agent-based development workflows to expedite infrastructure development, automate runbooks, and enhance CI/CD and debugging of distributed systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of Google Cloud Platform, including GKE, Compute Engine, IAM, and networking.

• Verified production experience with Terraform.

• Over 3 years of experience managing production Kubernetes environments, encompassing cluster lifecycle and upgrades, ingress/reverse-proxy configuration, secrets, and configuration management.

• Capability to optimize cloud expenditures through cost allocation, usage-pattern analysis, rightsizing, and scaling strategies.

• Experience with GitLab CI/CD or GitHub Actions, including pipeline debugging and supporting release workflows.

• Familiarity with Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, StatsD, Google Cloud Monitoring, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and tools like Apache Airflow, Airbyte, or n8n.

• Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar languages.

• Basic knowledge of AI-native IDEs such as Cursor and agent-based development environments.

• Proficiency in utilizing AI to generate, review, and optimize infrastructure code.

• Multi-cloud experience with AWS/Azure is a plus.

• Experience within regulated environments such as SOC 2 or ISO is a plus.

• Familiarity with European infrastructure providers like Hetzner is a plus.

• Experience in developing internal developer platforms is a plus.
