Staff Software Engineer – Tech Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of System Architecture: Design and enhance distributed systems on GCP (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, BigQuery), making final determinations on service boundaries, data models, and technology trade-offs across Go, Python, and TypeScript.

• AI & LLM Strategy: Spearhead the hands-on integration of AI systems, including open-source LLMs, embeddings, and speech models. Establish prompt optimization, evaluation strategies, and safety protocols using tools such as LangFuse.

• Operational Excellence: Advocate for observability, reliability, and scalability. Supervise event-driven ingestion and automated QA pipelines for call transcripts and healthcare data (FHIR / Medplum).

• Delivery & Execution: Contribute code to essential paths while leading significant technical projects. Identify gaps, remove obstacles for teams, and drive initiatives to completion.

• Cross-Functional Leadership: Convert complex technical limitations into clear alternatives and trade-offs for Product, Design, and Clinical Operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, with more than 2 years in project leadership or serving as a Tech Lead.

• Staff-level scope or equivalent technical impact.

• Extensive experience with LLM in production settings (hands-on experience required).

• Preferred background in ML, particularly applied machine learning or AI infrastructure.

• Expert-level skills in Go, Python, or TypeScript/Node, with the capability to review code across the entire stack.

• Comprehensive experience with distributed systems, containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Run), and event-driven architectures.

• Experience in hosting or integrating open-source models (e.g., vLLM, Ollama), with a strong grasp of RAG architectures.

• Experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2) or healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write RFCs and articulate technical strategies to non-technical stakeholders.
