Staff Software Engineer, Seller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and development of software solutions, making strategic choices that shape technical direction.

• Create technical solutions that enhance, optimize, and iterate on The RealReal's Seller Platform.

• Develop robust and scalable back-end systems to facilitate seamless and engaging customer experiences.

• Collaborate closely with Product partners, Engineering management, Product and business stakeholders, as well as cross-functional teams.

• Ensure alignment of technology development with business goals and effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Conduct thorough code reviews and promote adherence to best coding practices.

• Mentor and provide support to junior engineers.

• Investigate emerging technologies and trends within the software engineering field.

• Tackle complex technical challenges with innovative solutions while anticipating potential issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in software development.

• Required proficiency in Java and Ruby.

• Demonstrated experience in the development, scaling, and upkeep of distributed systems.

• Strong grasp of software engineering principles, architectural design, and agile development methodologies.

• Exceptional analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to work independently on complex challenges.

• Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex ideas simply and clearly.

• Experience with modern AI coding tools and autonomous engineering agents, such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot Workspace.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).

• Over 8 years of software development experience with a proven track record of successfully delivering consumer or business-facing products.

• Experience with Elixir is advantageous.

• Familiarity with front-end JavaScript frameworks like React or Vue.

• Knowledge of Gradle and Spring Boot.

• Proficiency in Python.

• Familiarity with AWS.

• Contributions to open-source projects or a robust GitHub portfolio.
