This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Designing and constructing essential backend services, APIs, and data infrastructure that drive Zocdoc’s cutting-edge search platform.

• Overhauling the ingestion and flow of provider, availability, and content data through indexing pipelines into search and machine learning systems.

• Crafting and enhancing low-latency query paths within our tier-1 search service, vector search infrastructure, and cross-encoder ranking systems.

• Incorporating machine learning model serving, embedding generation, and ranking signals into production backend services through scalable and observable methodologies.

• Leading architectural strategy and establishing engineering standards throughout the Search Services organization via design documentation, technical evaluations, and high-impact code reviews.

• Guiding engineers on backend best practices, distributed systems architecture, API design, and technical decision-making processes.

• Implementing robust observability in backend services—analyzing, troubleshooting, and enhancing performance, reliability, and data freshness throughout the entire search architecture.


⛳️ Requirements

• A demonstrated history of managing and scaling intricate, high-traffic backend platforms, with substantial knowledge in distributed systems design and long-term architectural vision.

• Extensive hands-on experience with C# / .NET or similar backend frameworks, emphasizing performance enhancement, concurrency, and service-oriented architecture.

• Considerable experience in designing and managing large-scale data pipelines, ingestion systems, or stream-processing workflows.

• Strong proficiency with AWS services and cloud-native infrastructure practices — including ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, Kinesis, OpenSearch, S3, and similar technologies.

• Knowledge of search technologies, vector databases, embedding models, and machine learning model serving, alongside a solid grasp of operating these at production scale.

• Excellent communication abilities that unify engineering, product, data science, and infrastructure stakeholders around common objectives.

• A commitment to mentoring engineers, establishing engineering best practices, and elevating the overall technical quality standards.

• Experience in designing systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and smooth degradation in latency-sensitive contexts.
