Staff Software Engineer – Platform Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Investigate inherited Scala systems to identify the core issues, distinguishing symptoms from root causes, and enhance scalability.

• Revamp the data layer relied upon by our ML and AI products — this presents a challenging and open-ended problem.

• Develop a Rust framework that enables teams to deliver accurate and efficient services without needing to reinvent the fundamentals.

• Enhance observability and resilience across the platform to proactively identify issues before they affect our customers.

• Influence developer tools and engineering standards — your contributions will amplify the effectiveness of the entire team.

• Promote the adoption of AI tools throughout the organization, determining what truly assists engineers in enhancing their work.

• Engage across the entire stack: JVM (Java/Scala), Rust, Python, SQL, and Spark.

• Systems thinking. You understand how components interrelate. When an issue arises, you analyze the entire system, not just the isolated part.

• Fearless code reading. You can immerse yourself in a large, unfamiliar codebase, construct a mental model, and determine necessary changes.

• Empathy for users. Whether it's a developer utilizing your framework or an operator interpreting your error messages, you design with end-users in mind.

• Testing discipline. You conduct thorough testing not due to external requirements, but because your experience has shown you the consequences of neglecting it.

• Comfort with ambiguity. Our most challenging problems lack clear specifications. You thrive in such environments rather than feeling hindered.

• Proficiency in the JVM ecosystem (Java, Scala).

• Experience with Rust is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with Python.

• Knowledge of SQL and data processing (Spark or similar).

• Background in distributed systems design.

• Expertise in observability and resilience engineering.
