Staff Software Engineer – Grafana Cloud Observability, Kubernetes Monitoring

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Design and build high-quality, scalable integrations for diverse infrastructure components, applications, and data ingestion pipelines.

• Develop middleware components and libraries that enhance the development and maintenance of observability solutions.

• Represent Grafana Labs in open-source forums, working groups, and events when required.

• Collaborate with product teams, design, and documentation to create features that align with broader product strategy and address customer needs.

• Lead the technical vision and direction of the team, contributing to strategic discussions and the future development of observability solutions.

• Coordinate with other departments, including Sales, Product, and Support teams, to ensure a comprehensive product experience.

• Take ownership of the services you manage by deploying well-tested, clean code.

⛳️ Requirements

• A robust 8+ years of experience with at least one programming language—any major language (Python, .NET, Java, Go, Rust, etc.) is acceptable.

• Proven experience in operating high-scale production systems on Kubernetes, including on-call participation, incident response, and postmortem practices.

• Familiarity with observability tools, such as Grafana.

• Strong understanding of time-series data, metrics cardinality challenges, and cost/performance tradeoffs/optimizations in observability systems.

• Experience in a hands-on technical leadership role, including setting technical direction, leading project teams, and influencing architectural decisions beyond your immediate team.

• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including scalability, consistency, high availability, and failure modes in large-scale systems.

• Experience writing clean, maintainable, robust, and efficient software.

• Proven track record of delivering projects from inception to completion in a self-directed manner.

• Excellent problem-solving and debugging abilities.

• Strong mentoring and leadership skills.
