Staff Software Engineer, Data Systems – Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the architecture for the ingestion and integration platform, establishing frameworks for onboarding new data sources.

• Determine the technical trajectory for both event-driven and batch processing throughout the organization.

• Make informed decisions regarding build versus buy and migration strategies.

• Set standards for observability, data timeliness, and error management.

• Lead design initiatives across data engineering, infrastructure, and product teams.

• Offer design reviews, mentorship, and hands-on coding to enhance the capabilities of engineers.

• Recognize unscoped platform challenges, advocate for viable solutions, and ensure their successful implementation.

• Collaborate on integrations and transformations related to ad platforms, order management systems, and real-time event collection.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software or data engineering, with considerable time spent leading the architecture of large-scale ingestion, ETL, or integration platforms.

• Extensive expertise in Python programming.

• Strong background in SQL and experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery or similar).

• Proven experience in designing API-based ETL systems at scale, including REST, GraphQL, webhooks, authentication, and multi-tenancy issues.

• Practical experience with orchestration tools (Airflow or similar).

• Practical experience with containerized infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Demonstrated technical leadership, including the ability to set direction, align engineers without direct reporting lines, and enhance team development practices.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and advancing engineering practices within a team or organization.

• Strong judgment in balancing investments in platform durability against timely delivery.

• Bonus: In-depth understanding of OAuth 2.0, API keys, secrets management, and secure multi-tenant architectures.

• Bonus: Experience with ERP systems, CRMs, CDPs, or complex enterprise data tools and APIs.

• Bonus: Familiarity with event-driven architectures and real-time data processing tools.

• Bonus: Knowledge of data governance, GDPR, SOC2, and best practices for securing sensitive data.
