
Staff Software Engineer, Cloud Sandboxes

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Design, implement, and manage core services that drive Docker’s Cloud Sandboxes platform.
• Create scalable systems for microVM orchestration, workload scheduling, and lifecycle management.
• Develop high-performance APIs and control plane components for managing multi-tenant workloads.
• Ensure system reliability, observability, and performance throughout Docker’s Cloud Sandbox infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product, platform, and security teams to provide customer-centric capabilities.
• Engage in architectural discussions, code reviews, and design documentation.
• Contribute to automation and improvements in CI/CD processes across the deployment pipeline.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues within distributed systems in cloud environments.
• Participate in on-call rotations for your team; respond to incidents, troubleshoot production problems, and promote continuous improvement of system reliability.
• Over 10 years of backend software engineering experience in developing large-scale cloud or distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in Go and/or Java.
• In-depth knowledge of container orchestration, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture.
• Experience in designing and managing highly available, secure, and observable production systems.
• Strong comprehension of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and associated scalability patterns.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging capabilities in distributed environments.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with remote, cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
