Staff Software Engineer, Backend – Capacity Modeling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Accountable for establishing the technical strategy for your team over a yearly timeframe, and assisting your team in aligning it with essential projects that have a significant business impact.

• Work collaboratively across various teams throughout the product development lifecycle by partnering with product management, design, and analytics to ensure that technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are properly understood and managed.

• Serve as a force-multiplier for your team by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes.

• Assume responsibility for your team’s operations and availability by ensuring the implementation of appropriate monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting systems to support ongoing operations and on-call responsibilities.

• Cultivate a culture of quality and ownership within your team by establishing code review and design standards, and promoting these standards beyond your team through your writing and technical presentations.

• Assist in developing talent within your team by offering constructive feedback and guidance, while leading by example.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using programming languages such as Python or Kotlin.

• A proven history of creating highly available distributed systems utilizing technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in managing the scale-up and scale-down of large sales events like Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or other important sales occasions.

• Proficient in optimizing autoscaling, CPU/Memory usage, and multi-threading for compute-intensive workloads.

• Demonstrated experience in delivering significant features, system components, or retiring existing functionalities in a system through the establishment of a technical and execution plan.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills that facilitate effective collaboration with our global engineering team.
