This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee technical planning and system architecture for our AI-driven products, focusing on 0-to-1 product development while carefully considering long-term tradeoffs.
• Develop high-quality code and swiftly create proof-of-concepts to assess architectural alternatives and address the most intricate technical challenges faced by the team.
• Serve as a technical mentor and facilitator for backend engineers, proactively identifying systemic technical debt, overcoming obstacles, and elevating engineering standards.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to transform vague business objectives into clear, well-structured initiatives, maintaining a healthy pipeline of future work.
• Integrate state-of-the-art AI workflows (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) into daily development routines, influencing how our engineering organization effectively and responsibly utilizes AI.
• A minimum of 7 years of professional engineering experience, emphasizing web technologies, with a proven history of leading impactful technical projects.
• Demonstrated experience functioning at a senior-to-staff level, with a record of owning system design and architectural decisions for high-scale or rapidly growing products.
• Strong backend expertise in Kotlin (experience with TypeScript is advantageous).
• Comprehensive understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS and Kubernetes (while not needing to be an infrastructure specialist, familiarity is essential).
• Practical experience in integrating AI models and large language models into customer-facing products.
• Experience in early-stage, startup, or high-innovation settings, feeling at ease with rapid shipping, quick iterations, and navigating uncertainty.
• Outstanding communication skills, naturally adept at collaborating closely with PMs, Designers, and other engineering teams to align on product vision.
• Experience with or enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code) to enhance engineering efficiency.
