Staff Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North America.

• Define the technical vision for distributed messaging systems using Go.

• Make strategic architectural choices for critical services, balancing scalability, cost, and reliability.

• Tackle ambiguous, high-stakes challenges across various teams and functions.

• Lead decision-making processes when the correct answer is not immediately clear.

• Foster consensus among teams on disputed technical issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in developing scalable, distributed systems in Go or comparable statically typed languages, including several years in an architectural role.

• Expertise across various systems or domains.

• Proven ability to design for production environments and to quantify throughput, cost, and reliability trade-offs.

• Experience in designing observability and recovery mechanisms, including metrics, alerting, rollback, backpressure, and checkpointing.

• Familiarity with cloud-native frameworks, AWS, GCP, relational databases, and MySQL.

• Insight into performance trade-offs.

• Demonstrable impact on the improvement of other engineers through mentorship, technical writing, design reviews, and establishing robust standards.

• A proactive approach and discernment regarding which decisions require careful consideration.

• Successful completion of background checks and employment verifications.
