Staff Software Engineer, Backend – Agent Orchestration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design the agent orchestration and workflow execution system on Temporal, incorporating sandboxing to ensure that agent code execution, web access, and file systems are secure and isolated.

• Develop the task management, autonomous execution loops, and tool invocation infrastructure that enable agents to operate independently and engage with the real world at scale.

• Manage the distributed data and event pipelines (Kafka, Kubernetes, Redis) that ensure the platform remains observable and resilient.

• Transform ambiguous, high-stakes challenges into clear technical designs, implement them, and document the architecture to aid future engineers in understanding the system.

• Collaborate with the team’s Tech Lead to enhance architecture and code quality, reviewing designs as the team expands.

• Partner with the Workforce Management team to ensure the execution layer aligns with their developments, contributing to production support, including coverage during US afternoon hours.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience with real scalable distributed systems: production environments that operate across multiple machines, rather than a single server.

• Proficient with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration systems.

• Strong expertise in Kafka and Kubernetes for container orchestration, particularly in relation to sandboxing components.

• In-depth backend development skills; this role does not involve frontend development, so backend capabilities are crucial.

• Experience with distributed streaming and event-driven systems (we utilize Kafka and Redis). The projects you've completed with these tools are more significant than the specific tools used.

• A proven history of owning architecture from start to finish, rather than merely contributing to existing plans.

• Proficient in Go and Python.

• An effective communicator who can design autonomously while bringing the team along in the process.

• Familiarity with agentic or LLM-based systems, particularly in tool invocation.
