This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Set the technical vision for the next generation of the Data Identity team.
• Collaborate with the team lead and product management on multi-quarter architectural strategies.
• Take ownership of the identity data model, which includes coordinating schemas, cross-ecosystem mapping, deduplication, and re-discovery.
• Design and build streaming and batch pipelines utilizing Java, Spark/EMR, HBase, Databricks, and AWS data primitives.
• Drive initiatives for migrations, cost optimization, reliability enhancements, and infrastructure decisions.
• Create stable, versioned data contracts for downstream teams.
• Lead the integration of third-party SBOM feeds, including CycloneDX, VEX, and SPDX.
• Represent Sonatype in technical conversations with vendor engineering teams.
• Investigate AI/ML applications for identity re-discovery, package deduplication, and data quality signals.
• Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools for coding, code review, investigation, and data exploration.
• Oversee alarm triage, SLO discipline, cost management, and incident response.
• Influence peer teams and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
• 3+ years at a Staff level or equivalent scope of responsibility.
• Extensive experience in data-platform engineering at scale, including both streaming and batch pipelines as well as distributed storage.
• Familiarity with Spark, HBase, Databricks, or similar systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java or a systems programming background that fosters rapid productivity.
• Experience in designing and coordinating cross-team data contracts, schema versioning, and ensuring backward compatibility.
• Hands-on experience with AWS-native technologies such as EMR, S3, SNS, and SQS.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and engage in vendor-facing technical tasks.
• Working proficiency with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude or similar.
• Capability to determine when to use LLMs and classical ML methodologies for data-pipeline challenges.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Background in an agile environment with experience in cross-functional collaboration.
