This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, create, and sustain backend services and APIs utilizing TypeScript and contemporary Node.js frameworks.
• Lead system design initiatives for both new and existing platforms, focusing on data modeling, scalability, reliability, and long-term maintenance considerations.
• Manage complex backend domains comprehensively, from the initial solution design to implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, frontend, infrastructure, and Customer Success teams to translate product objectives and customer requirements into clear technical execution strategies.
• Suggest and refine implementation methods, encompassing technical tradeoffs, sequencing, scope definition, and operational factors.
• Deconstruct vague initiatives into actionable engineering tasks with well-defined assumptions, risks, and dependencies.
• Drive the technical direction and standards throughout the backend stack, including coding practices, observability, error handling, maintainability, and performance.
• Make informed technical decisions that balance delivery speed, system quality, maintainability, and user impact.
• Identify and proactively tackle technical debt, scalability issues, security risks, and operational challenges.
• Utilize modern tools, automation, and AI-assisted development workflows to enhance engineering efficiency and execution speed.
• Mentor and assist engineers through code reviews, design discussions, technical guidance, and collaborative problem-solving.
• Contribute to incident response, root-cause analysis, and enhancements to system resilience and operational maturity.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily with a focus on backend development.
• Extensive expertise in TypeScript and the development of production backend services.
• Strong system design capabilities, with a background in designing and evolving large-scale or mission-critical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in uncertain environments.
• Proficient in translating high-level product goals into practical, executable engineering solutions.
• Strong skills in problem decomposition and technical planning.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; capable of clearly articulating technical concepts, tradeoffs, and implementation choices to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in balancing long-term architectural integrity with immediate delivery requirements.
• Strong collaboration abilities and comfort in working cross-functionally with Product, Design, and customer-facing teams.
• Ability to comprehend customer workflows and assess technical decisions in light of user impact.
• Comfort in a fast-paced, AI-assisted engineering environment with high expectations around ownership and execution.
