
Staff Software Engineer – Android

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Establish and guide the multi-year architectural strategy for our Android applications, ensuring that our "offline-first" capabilities and real-time data synchronization are dependable, scalable, and consistently improving as we grow.
• Lead impactful technical initiatives that involve multiple teams, such as modularizing our codebase, enhancing local data persistence (Room/SQLite), or revamping our UI layer utilizing Jetpack Compose.
• Take responsibility for the stability and performance of our hospitality suite, designing systems that are resilient to the demanding, 24/7 environment of a commercial kitchen.
• Serve as a mentor to Senior and Mid-level engineers, setting the benchmark for code quality, documentation, and automated testing, while promoting a culture of technical excellence.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, and leadership teams to assess feasibility, shape roadmap strategies, and align technical investments with customer and business outcomes.
• Work alongside enablement teams to enhance CI/CD processes, automated testing, failure analysis, and the responsible application of AI-assisted engineering tools.
• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial expertise in building Android applications at scale. Proven track record of operating at a Staff Engineer level or similar technical leadership role.
• Extensive knowledge of Kotlin, including coroutines, Flow, and structured concurrency. Experience in modernizing or interfacing with legacy Android architectures, such as systems based on RxJava.
• Demonstrated capability in designing and evolving large, multi-module Android applications.
• Strong grasp of Android architecture patterns, such as MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, or similar methodologies.
• Experience managing complex local data, implementing offline-first workflows, synchronization, or handling high-volume real-time data streams.
• Ability to diagnose intricate performance, reliability, and cross-layer issues across application, OS, hardware, and network domains.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives through influence across multiple teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating technical trade-offs to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
