This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership of the Android technical roadmap, making key architectural decisions, selecting technologies, and guiding long-term platform direction.
• Establish and uphold Android engineering standards within the team, focusing on code quality, testing methodologies, and readiness for release.
• Lead the design of solutions for new features and significant platform initiatives, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
• Promote the adoption of contemporary Android development practices, including Jetpack Compose, MVVM/Clean Architecture, coroutines, and dependency injection.
• Collaborate with the iOS Tech Lead and backend engineers to guarantee consistent cross-platform product functionality and alignment of API contracts.
• Oversee Android delivery across digital banking value streams, including planning, estimation, milestone tracking, and risk management.
• Deconstruct complex projects into actionable engineering tasks, clearly defining dependencies and timelines.
• Proactively identify and resolve technical obstacles before they affect release schedules.
• Work alongside QA to establish an Android-specific testing strategy, which includes unit, integration, and UI automation using Espresso or a comparable tool.
• Engage in the on-call rotation for production support, addressing urgent issues that affect financial institution clients and their members.
• Directly contribute to feature development, code reviews, debugging, and performance enhancements within the digital banking value stream.
• Maintain a significant individual coding contribution while balancing the responsibilities of technical leadership.
• Advocate for clean, testable, and well-documented Kotlin code throughout the Android codebase.
• Manage a team of three Android engineers, conducting regular one-on-one meetings, providing performance feedback, and supporting their technical development.
• Cultivate a collaborative, high-trust team environment that prioritizes engineering excellence and ongoing learning.
• Mentor engineers in Android best practices, fintech domain knowledge, and effective cross-functional teamwork.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership on hiring, onboarding, and enhancing the Android engineering capabilities.
• Work closely with Product Management and Design to define feature scope, evaluate feasibility, and provide precise effort estimates.
• Partner with backend engineers on API design and integration patterns relevant to mobile banking workflows.
• Align with QA on automation coverage strategies, supporting the organization's transition to modern mobile testing frameworks.
• Collaborate with DevOps on Android build pipelines, release automation, and CI/CD integration.
• Strictly follow security protocols when managing customer financial data.
• Implement knowledge of mobile security best practices, including certificate pinning, secure storage, biometric authentication, and session management, within a regulated banking environment.
• Ensure that Android implementations comply with relevant financial services regulations.
• Minimum of 6 years of Android development experience with advanced Kotlin proficiency.
• At least 2 years in a tech lead or senior engineering leadership role with responsibility for managing direct reports.
• Strong expertise in Jetpack Compose and modern Android UI development.
• Solid grasp of Android architectural patterns, including MVVM, Clean Architecture, and Repository pattern.
• Experience with coroutines, Flow, and reactive programming paradigms.
• Proficiency with dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger.
• Familiarity with Android testing frameworks, including JUnit, Espresso, and Mockk.
• Knowledge of RESTful API integration and mobile networking strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines for Android, such as GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or equivalent tools.
• Proficient in version control workflows, including Git, pull request reviews, and branching strategies.
