Staff Software Engineer, AI Foundations – AI Agent Optimization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Spearhead optimization initiatives for Temporal users through agent enhancements.

• Create tools and systems that enhance AI agents' token usage and response times while ensuring output quality.

• Design and construct reliable agentic coding systems that produce high-quality results.

• Gain expertise in AI application development methodologies, innovative approaches, and architectural designs.

• Take ownership of new features from conception to completion and work alongside other teams to ensure reliability and enhance developer experience.

• Continue to deepen knowledge of agentic coding practices.

• Act as a domain specialist in AI design patterns, offering best practices and exemplary models.

• Collaborate directly with the developer community to troubleshoot advanced issues and collect feedback on Temporal features and APIs.

• Author public technical documentation for Temporal concepts and APIs.

• Occasionally provide engineering insights to customers.

• Travel to meet colleagues once or twice annually.

• Participate in developer conferences to represent Temporal (optional).

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience.

• Demonstrated experience in optimizing AI systems utilizing machine learning and systems techniques.

• Strong interest in generative AI, especially in agents and coding.

• Knowledge of leveraging AI to enhance quality in addition to quantity.

• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with a capacity to learn new ones.

• Extensive experience with concurrent programming, including mutexes, atomics, and other concurrency primitives.

• Proven experience in designing APIs and documenting publicly accessible libraries or modules.

• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills in English.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent experience in developing production-level software.

• Familiarity with Temporal’s programming model is a plus.

• Contributions to open source software are a plus.

• Experience in large-scale distributed systems architecture and design is advantageous.

• Background in machine learning, model training, data science, or machine learning systems is beneficial.

• Graduate degree in Computer Science is a plus.
