Staff Software Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the architecture and technical strategy for a sophisticated engineering system (e.g., a core component of scheduling, deployment, autoscaling, or state management) within the Flink engine.

• Contribute to the overarching technical vision and translate it into actionable, high-impact projects that align with Confluent Cloud’s strategic objectives.

• Utilize sound judgment to balance short-term implementation efforts with long-term architectural integrity.

• Independently lead the execution of complex technical projects within your area of expertise or across peer teams, from inception through to production.

• Identify and initiate high-leverage, impactful projects in your field of expertise, securing buy-in from stakeholders.

• Significantly reduce code and design complexity to help the team and organization accelerate progress.

• Serve as the go-to technical authority in your domain, ensuring high quality and impact in architectural designs for both your team and peer teams.

• Enhance the stability, performance, scalability, and operational excellence across multiple critical systems within the SPA team.

• Act as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and enhancing operational automation, proactively addressing systemic challenges.

• Exhibit strong, clear, and concise technical communication skills (both written and verbal) to facilitate clear decision-making and elevate communication standards for the team.

• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, fostering sustainable team growth (e.g., by establishing processes/tools that ensure others' success).

⛳️ Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience, generally involving 8+ years of pertinent experience in stream processing or large-scale distributed systems.

• Proven strong fundamentals and extensive experience in the architecture, design, and development of a complex engineering system from start to finish.

• Demonstrated ability to lead efforts with a team or independently manage a deep technical area, effectively aligning small groups on technical direction.

• Strong grasp of cloud engineering principles, including the design and operation of mission-critical systems in public cloud environments.

• Proficient in Go, Java, Scala, or Rust, with the capability to contribute technically to development in these languages.
