This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +7 more states.
• Monitor, evaluate, and provide feedback on detrimental proposals, including amendments, revisions, and site-specific projects when appropriate.
• Engage in litigation to contest harmful projects in both federal and state courts.
• Participate in administrative advocacy, such as submitting comments on proposed plans, projects, and rulemakings, as well as preparing petitions for rulemaking.
• Assess ongoing state and federal legislation.
• Contribute to strategic planning and execution of both legal and campaign initiatives.
• Build cases that advance the objectives of the Center's Great Basin Program.
• Collaborate with regional, local, and national partners.
• Work alongside scientists and other relevant experts.
• Coordinate with staff to prepare external communications and deliver presentations at relevant conferences.
• Occasional travel may be necessary for meetings, conferences, hearings, oral arguments, field visits, etc.
• Carry out additional job-related responsibilities as assigned.
• Juris Doctor degree, with admission to a relevant state bar.
• Minimum of three years of experience for Staff Attorney or eight years for Senior Attorney in environmental and natural resources litigation.
• Proven experience in developing strategic litigation and litigating under pertinent federal statutes, specifically: ESA, NEPA, FLPMA, APA.
• Familiarity with federal laws concerning public lands and the management and protection of endangered species.
• General understanding of water law.
• Knowledge or the ability to quickly learn about the biology and threats to public lands and at-risk species in the Great Basin and northern Mojave deserts.
• Exceptional writing, research, and oral advocacy abilities.
• Capacity to manage a comprehensive workload with changing timelines, priorities, and urgent needs while adhering to deadlines and high-quality standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to function independently as well as collaboratively within an effective team.
• Commitment to principles of justice, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.
• Willingness to work over 40 hours per week, including some extended days and weekends.
