This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Select, adapt, refine, assess, and implement pretrained models and lightweight classifiers tailored for security challenges specific to Reddit.
• Develop reproducible training and evaluation pipelines utilizing Reddit’s machine learning platform.
• Collaborate with platform engineers to enhance inference performance, resource efficiency, and operational reliability.
• Establish the technical vision and roadmap for modeling over multiple quarters.
• Gather requirements, define model architectures, and iterate on model development in partnership with cross-functional teams.
• Perform model evaluations and conduct performance analyses to enhance accuracy and adversarial robustness.
• Set launch criteria that balance false positives, latency, throughput, reliability, and cost considerations.
• Take ownership of training-data quality and oversee the production model lifecycle.
• Utilize monitoring, incident insights, and feedback from red teams to inform dataset improvements, retraining, and safe deployment or rollback practices.
• Develop best practices for responsible machine learning development and deployment, including reproducible experiments, testing, model and data lineage, and privacy-conscious data usage.
• Stay updated on research in NLP, large language models, and relevant multimodal methods.
• Mentor engineers and facilitate technical discussions and reviews.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in developing machine learning models, with significant hands-on experience in model training, proven production impact, and a history of leading complex initiatives across teams.
• Strong expertise in Python programming, software engineering, and deep learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face Transformers.
• In-depth understanding of neural network architectures and optimization techniques, along with proficiency in data preprocessing, tokenization, embeddings, language modeling, and model calibration.
• Expertise in scalable data pipelines and distributed training frameworks like Ray Train or PyTorch Distributed, accompanied by a solid understanding of hardware and system trade-offs.
• Proven diligence in experimental design and model evaluation, including representative holdouts, ablation studies, adversarial testing, and error analysis to identify training issues, biases, and generalization gaps.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate model behavior, security risks, uncertainty, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Preferred: Experience in applying machine learning to security, trust and safety, fraud, privacy, or similar adversarial domains.
• Preferred: Familiarity with adversarial training, model distillation, active learning, or synthetic data generation.
