This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead and drive experiences across consumer-focused products to craft highly personalized journeys that align with households' routines, needs, and goals, while adding new layers of value to the core grocery experience.
• Oversee end-to-end experience design briefs across all platforms and modalities, including interactive interfaces, enhancing how customers discover, shop, and form lasting habits with Instacart.
• Develop narratives, naming, and value propositions for experiences and features, creating materials (strategy documents, workflows, storyboards, internal presentations) that assist teams in sharing strategies and ideas.
• Establish and manage experience frameworks that outline key journeys (initial three orders, fostering repeat behaviors, subscription adoption, household management) and clearly define the beats, rhythms, and tasks at each step.
• Shape content, hierarchy, and information architecture across platforms: determine how information is organized, labeled, and prioritized to ensure users have clear understanding at every stage while ensuring the business and partners receive the necessary visibility.
• Codify experiential principles, both functional and emotional, to direct what users should comprehend, decide, and feel throughout their journeys, then convert those principles into patterns, content hierarchies, and interaction guidelines that can be scaled across teams.
• Integrate AI-assisted prototyping and concept development as a central aspect of your practice, delivering strong art direction, references, and experiential intent to produce flows and concepts that align with Instacart's design system, brand positioning, and evolving interaction patterns.
• Design for visual clarity, pacing, and density, establishing patterns, grids, and rules that dictate how modules, carousels, and key placements function (above vs. below the fold) to balance user needs, business objectives, and partner value.
• Collaborate with Research, and occasionally lead or plan it yourself, to gather insights into how customers shop, establish routines, and evolve over their lifecycle with Instacart, subsequently translating those insights into tangible journey maps, workflows, and experiential principles.
• Elevate experience-led thinking across teams, mentoring partners on how to conceptualize journeys and emotions rather than merely screens, and advocating for cohesive, principle-driven experiences that uniquely represent Instacart.
• Over 15 years of experience in designing consumer-facing digital products and experiences across web and mobile, with a portfolio showcasing complex, multi-step journeys and end-to-end flows, including marketing channels such as social media, CRM, and campaigns.
• A strong history of projects that exhibit fluency and depth in at least two design disciplines: content design, UX/product design, visual design, design strategy, design research — and demonstrable fluency in collaborating across the others.
• Motivated by continuity, consistency, cohesion, comprehension, and brand differentiation, with an exceptional eye for design system details.
• Proven capacity to collaborate with product and business leaders, directing multiple design disciplines through succinct briefs, concept iterations, testing, executive reviews, and feature launches.
• A profound fascination with human behavior, popular culture, food, social dynamics, shopping culture, communication, visualization, design systems, language, content hierarchy, and the evolving models for creating world-class design products for future conditions.
• Strong writing abilities, with exceptional communication skills that include structured strategic storytelling, context setting, visually engaging and polished presentations that inspire, and clear decision-making frameworks/concepts that facilitate agreements to move forward.
• Case studies of brand-centric product design work driven by user insights, data science, strategic frameworks, and metrics that impact the business.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and multi-stakeholder environments, creating structure from loosely defined opportunities and guiding teams toward alignment.
• Proficiency in Google Slides and Figma is essential, with a desire for additional design or generative tools, including but not limited to: Claude Code, Loveable, Cursor, and ChatGPT.
• Highly competitive compensation and benefits package.
