Staff Engineer – Product Architecture, JetBrains Cloud Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture for a specific product domain within the JetBrains Cloud Platform and enhance it progressively.

• Convert product and domain specifications into precise architectural designs and implementation strategies.

• Establish service boundaries, domain models, data flows, and integration agreements, adhering to platform standards.

• Lead critical architectural decisions and trade-offs in your domain (e.g., API design, persistence, reliability, performance, and migration strategies).

• Ensure that your domain architecture is designed for scalability, reliability, and observability from the beginning.

• Evaluate and affirm architectural designs within your domain and team to enhance quality and consistency.

• Collaborate with platform architects and other domain leaders to align on cross-cutting decisions and shared interfaces.

• Work closely with senior and staff engineers to clarify requirements, minimize ambiguity, and facilitate execution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess robust experience in software engineering and system design, with a proven history of working on complex systems.

• Have experience overseeing architecture within a product or domain, including balancing immediate delivery demands with long-term viability.

• Be comfortable aligning product requirements with platform capabilities and constraints, negotiating trade-offs as necessary.

• Capable of facilitating architectural decision-making both within a team and across partner teams.

• Comfortable working in an environment where many processes and standards are still being established.

• Driven by long-term objectives, designing for evolution rather than one-off implementations.

• Have experience designing product architectures that function in cloud environments and integrate with various systems.

• Strong ability to reason through architectural trade-offs in context (time-to-market vs correctness, flexibility vs complexity, etc.).

• Enjoy assisting teams in reaching effective solutions through collaboration, rather than through enforcement.
