This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Create innovative methods, algorithms, and software tools for applications based on synchrophasors that aid real-time transmission system operations.
• Carry out modeling, simulation, and analysis of extensive power systems that incorporate a high level of inverter-based resources and new load technologies.
• Execute dynamic studies of power systems utilizing PSS®E and PSCAD.
• Examine field-recorded measurement data and assist in event, disturbance, and post-contingency analyses.
• Perform comprehensive reviews of technical literature and evaluate the latest advancements and emerging technologies in wide-area monitoring, protection, and control.
• Aid in the development, configuration, and implementation of real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.
• Create software applications and automation tools for power system analytics, modeling, and research purposes.
• Develop technical reports, journal articles, conference papers, presentations, and research outputs.
• Assist technical research leads in identifying member needs, crafting technical strategies, preparing proposals, and planning forthcoming research initiatives.
• Present technical findings at industry meetings, conferences, workshops, and EPRI events.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams while also executing technical tasks independently.
• Manage various project assignments and adhere to technical deadlines.
• A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline with a focus on power systems is preferred.
• A Master's degree with relevant industry and research experience may be taken into account.
• Proven experience in conducting research, modeling, and simulation studies pertaining to power system dynamics, stability, and control.
• Strong knowledge in power system dynamics, stability analysis, and control mechanisms.
• Established expertise in synchrophasor technology, measurement systems, and related grid applications.
• Experience with electromechanical dynamics simulation platforms, ideally PSS®E.
• Familiarity with electromagnetic transient simulation platforms, preferably PSCAD.
• Knowledge in modeling and analyzing inverter-based resources and technologies interfaced with power electronics.
• Understanding of real-time simulation platforms and hardware-in-the-loop methodologies.
• Strong programming skills, ideally including Python, MATLAB, and C++.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and presentation abilities.
• Capability to work independently while also effectively contributing within collaborative technical teams.
• Proven ability to handle multiple technical priorities and project deliverables.
• Skill in articulating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
