Staff Engineer, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish and lead the long-term vision, roadmap, and design standards for data architecture within Renew Home's virtual power plant ecosystem.

• Oversee fault-tolerant batch and real-time streaming data infrastructure that processes data from millions of interconnected devices.

• Work in collaboration with application and analytics engineering teams on data architecture and its delivery.

• Manage database architecture and ensure continuous performance optimization across PostgreSQL Aurora, AWS Redshift, and various query engines.

• Define technical standards for the development, monitoring, quality, and uptime of data pipelines.

• Lead infrastructure management and support operations through participation in the on-call rotation.

• Mentor and support senior and mid-level data engineers.

• Advocate for engineering best practices, conduct architectural design reviews, and promote technical growth.

• Assess, prototype, and integrate contemporary data technologies and frameworks.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in software and data engineering.

• Demonstrated success in architectural leadership at scale.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with equivalent practical experience.

• Proven experience in designing, building, and managing production-quality high-volume batch and real-time data streaming architectures.

• Familiarity with GCP PubSub, AWS Kinesis, AWS Lambda, Apache Kafka, and Apache Flink.

• Expertise in scalable data lake architectures utilizing AWS S3, Iceberg, AWS Glue, and Delta Lake.

• Proficiency in database design, performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and partitioning in AWS Redshift and PostgreSQL Aurora.

• Mastery of Python and SQL programming languages.

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, CI/CD processes, and Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform, CDKTF, and AWS CDK.

• Capability to mentor engineering talent and foster cross-functional collaboration.

• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future visa sponsorship.

• Bonus: Experience in optimizing enterprise-scale data warehouses and advanced Redshift functionalities.

• Bonus: Experience with Apache Spark, Ray, or complete machine learning pipelines.
