This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Oversee the development, testing, documentation, and deployment of high-quality, scalable software into production.
• Cultivate a thorough understanding of the industry, product, and roadmap to influence team strategy and organizational direction.
• Direct the comprehensive technical execution of intricate features and systems from concept and architecture to deployment and enhancement.
• Establish and uphold engineering principles, guidelines, and best practices.
• Collaborate with product, design, and other stakeholders on significant technical decisions that align with business objectives and scalability.
• Lead incident resolution as part of the on-call rotation.
• Recognize and eliminate obstacles while working across teams on complex projects.
• Conduct and enhance code reviews.
• Guide team planning and design discussions, optimizing design patterns.
• Advocate for enhancements in software quality, testability, operational metrics, and documentation.
• Mentor and coach engineers at all levels.
• Participate in occasional travel to Fanatics offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in building highly scalable, performant, and adaptable backend distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Spring with Kotlin and/or Java is a plus.
• Proven ability to promote best practices in backend development and mentor others in effective coding and architectural strategies.
• Familiarity with observability practices, including logging, monitoring, and tracing in distributed systems.
• Expertise in Agile software delivery methodologies.
• A history of modeling and driving process enhancements across teams.
• Capability to collaborate cross-functionally across diverse teams within large enterprise settings.
• Exceptional communication skills for articulating complex technical concepts to engineers, executives, and non-technical stakeholders.
• A team-first attitude and readiness to do what is necessary to accomplish tasks.
• Ability to excel in a high-growth environment where priorities shift frequently and decisions are made swiftly.
• Preferred: substantial experience in the sports industry, gaming, and content delivery.
• Preferred: strong proficiency in Kotlin, Java, and/or Go.
• Preferred: expertise in Kafka or Amazon SQS and event-driven architectures.
• Preferred: familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform.
• Preferred: capability to work in both legacy and greenfield codebases, languages, and environments.
