This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of complex, ambiguous, and high-stakes modeling challenges at Stord from initial framing to production deployment.
• Perform in-depth exploratory data analysis to validate assumptions and uncover non-obvious insights.
• Develop predictive models for supply chain optimization and consumer-facing applications, which include delivery time estimation, demand forecasting, routing optimization, personalized product recommendations, and customer profile enrichment and segmentation.
• Produce high-quality production code that integrates seamlessly with existing services and is maintainable by others.
• Play a pivotal role in determining Stord's data science and ML technology stack, as well as tooling and infrastructure selections.
• Collaborate with fellow data scientists and ML ops to establish standards and best practices for model development, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.
• Contribute to both the data science and ML ops aspects of the stack as necessary.
• Document technical decisions and patterns in a manner that allows the broader team to build upon them.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate models into production systems and deliver features.
• Work with engineers to deploy models as microservices or API endpoints, ensuring their performance over time.
• Engage in sprint planning and agile ceremonies.
• Review code and provide feedback on data-related implementations.
• Lead technical discussions with engineering and product leadership regarding data science strategy and investments.
• Convert complex modeling methods and trade-offs into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
• Identify high-impact opportunities for data science across the platform and present them with supporting analysis.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python programming with practical production code experience.
• Strong SQL skills, particularly with Postgres and BigQuery.
• Comprehensive understanding of statistical analysis and machine learning principles.
• Demonstrated experience in deploying and maintaining models in production environments, including monitoring and retraining practices.
• Hands-on knowledge of ML ops practices such as model versioning, pipeline orchestration, drift detection, and experimentation frameworks.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proficiency in Git/GitHub and collaborative development workflows.
• Technical credibility, earning trust as an expert in difficult problems through demonstrated expertise rather than just seniority.
• Strong communication skills, capable of articulating technical opinions in leadership discussions and making complex trade-offs understandable.
• Pragmatic approach, focused on delivering functional solutions and iterating rather than waiting for ideal conditions.
• Collaborative mindset, working openly with data scientists, ML engineers, and software engineers toward shared goals.
• Self-directed, able to identify necessary actions in ambiguous situations without waiting for detailed specifications.
