Staff Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the implementation design throughout the platform — including ingestion, modeling, and the user interfaces.

• Develop the detailed architecture aligned with high-level strategic direction in collaboration with the architecture team.

• Manage integration design across a diverse array of production source systems.

• Create ingestion pipelines from these various systems.

• Transform raw data into business-ready datasets, ensuring there is a unified definition for each metric.

• Establish the engineering standards that the team adheres to, encompassing data quality and testing protocols.

• Collaborate with platform and operations teams to facilitate safe and low-impact extraction from production databases.

• Engage directly with data users to ensure the solutions developed address real-world inquiries.

• Mentor data engineers and influence their development processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant experience in building and managing cloud data platforms, preferably including one that you have designed from the ground up.

• Ability to make informed decisions despite incomplete information, with an understanding of which decisions carry higher risks.

• Proficient in SQL and possess a strong command of a cloud data warehouse (such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or similar).

• Familiarity with a transformation framework like dbt, with well-defined opinions on project structuring.

• Experience with ELT and change-data-capture processes across relational data sources.

• Knowledge of AWS services, including read replicas, object storage, and managing data transfers between regions without issues.

• Practical experience with dimensional or medallion modeling, focusing on application rather than theory.

• Regular practice with workflow orchestration tools (such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar) and data quality testing.
