Staff Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee cross-functional technical planning with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Product Managers to convert data architecture needs into scalable technical solutions.

• Develop new data pipelines, facilitate data transfers, and establish compliance-oriented infrastructure within cloud environments.

• Assist in managing and optimizing datasets to ensure data consistency and enhance performance.

• Execute data transformation, integration, and validation processes for analytics and reporting purposes.

• Collaborate with DevOps on deployment standards, monitoring frameworks, and operational best practices.

• Lead technical investigations into data-related issues, resolve them, and suggest process improvements.

• Enhance data pipelines for speed, reliability, and efficiency.

• Provide recommendations for data architecture and oversee their implementation.

• Advocate for privacy, security, and data governance throughout the data lifecycle.

• Create technical documentation and learning resources.

• Establish and promote data engineering best practices and standards.

• Work alongside Product Managers and cross-functional colleagues as priorities, technology, and team requirements evolve.

• Mentor engineers and data scientists on pipeline design, data engineering methodologies, and architectural insights.

• Participate in ad hoc projects and initiatives as organizational needs change.

• Report to a Data Science Manager; travel will not exceed 10% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in data engineering or related technical disciplines.

• Proficient in SQL with experience in Python and R.

• Familiarity with Postgres and cloud-based data warehousing solutions (e.g. BigQuery, Snowflake).

• Expert in data orchestration tools (e.g. Dagster) for constructing and overseeing data pipelines.

• Proficient in using dbt for data transformation and modeling within data warehouses.

• Demonstrated experience with business intelligence tools such as Metabase or similar (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Looker).

• Experience ensuring that data pipelines are accessible to Data Scientists through notebook tools (e.g. Hex).

• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code.

• Strong collaboration skills with a proven ability to manage cross-functional relationships, effectively meet stakeholder needs, and facilitate decision-making discussions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Proven ability to judiciously utilize AI coding tools, validating and refining generated code for quality, while modeling that discipline for teammates.
