This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky.
• Act as the primary technical authority for business intelligence development within the Office of Innovation.
• Design, develop, test, publish, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports tailored for both executive and operational audiences.
• Create and manage reusable semantic models utilizing certified Snowflake data assets.
• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot DAX, SQL, and data model logic.
• Implement Power BI security protocols, including row-level security and workspace permissions.
• Lead the transition from legacy and uncertified sources to approved Snowflake data assets.
• Validate reporting outputs against established definitions, prior-state reports, and expectations from business owners.
• Identify reports, measures, and models that need to be rebuilt, retired, consolidated, or replaced.
• Collaborate with the Innovation team to convert business requirements into reporting specifications, semantic models, and dashboards.
• Clarify metrics, definitions, filters, and decision points in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Communicate report logic, data limitations, and quality issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Establish best practices for Power BI development, semantic modeling, DAX, SQL, documentation, and report lifecycle management.
• Review BI work and provide mentorship to team members as the BI function expands.
• Bachelor's degree.
• Over 5 years of practical experience in developing enterprise Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models.
• Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, performance optimization, report publishing, workspace management, and dashboard design.
• Strong SQL skills, encompassing joins, aggregations, CTEs, window functions, troubleshooting, and dataset validation.
• Hands-on experience in building BI solutions on Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse.
• Solid understanding of BI data modeling concepts, including star schemas, fact and dimension tables, measures, and reusable semantic layers.
• Experience in implementing Power BI security measures, including row-level security and workspace access management.
• Capable of selecting Power BI, semantic models, reporting views, certified datasets, or upstream data engineering based on reporting requirements.
• Strong visual design judgment for executive and operational dashboards.
• Ability to validate reporting outputs, identify data quality issues, and communicate discrepancies effectively.
• Sound judgment regarding data privacy and role-based access.
• Remote work arrangement.
• Occasional travel to the main campus as needed.
