This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Develop, enhance, and sustain scalable bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data analysis, including WGS, WES, RNA-seq, and single-cell.
• Design and implement innovative algorithms for secondary and tertiary NGS analyses customized to Ultima’s sequencing technology.
• Lead and manage multiple projects concurrently, effectively prioritizing tasks in alignment with the evolving objectives of the company.
• Conduct benchmarking and validation studies.
• Analyze extensive genomic datasets and produce actionable insights for internal R&D, product development, and external collaborators.
• Collaborate closely with wet-lab scientists, software engineers, and product teams to translate experimental findings into enhanced workflows and tools.
• Support external collaborations by preparing technical analyses, reports, presentations, and data summaries for clients, partners, and conferences.
• Contribute to scientific publications, application notes, white papers, and other external communication materials as required.
• Engage in customer-facing discussions to clarify data analysis methodologies, performance metrics, and platform capabilities.
• Clearly document methods and effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and advancements in genomics, computational biology, machine learning, and cancer biology.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or a related discipline; or MS with substantial industry experience.
• PhD with 5+ years or MS with 8+ years of practical experience in analyzing NGS data is essential.
• Strong programming expertise in Python and/or C++.
• Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools and somatic variant calling software such as BWA, minimap2, GATK, and samtools.
• Proficient in Linux/Unix environments and workflow management systems (Nextflow, Snakemake, WDL).
• Experience handling large datasets in cloud environments (AWS, GCP).
• Comprehensive understanding of genomics and cancer biology.
• Strong statistical and data analysis capabilities.
• Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous priorities and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of machine learning techniques applied to genomics.
• Clear and confident communicator, comfortable in external-facing roles.
• Experience in regulated environments (CLIA, CAP) is advantageous.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup atmosphere with shifting priorities.
