Staff Backend Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and develop backend services utilizing Python (Flask, SQLAlchemy, gevent) that operate in customer-managed environments, emphasizing operational correctness and upgrade safety.

• Take ownership of the deployment lifecycle: create and maintain Docker images, ensuring services launch correctly across diverse customer infrastructure setups.

• Develop and enhance REST and gRPC APIs utilized by both internal services and external management consoles, adhering to strict backwards-compatibility agreements as the platform expands.

• Collaborate closely with the database layer (PostgreSQL and MongoDB) to write Alembic migrations that execute safely in production, manage schema evolution without downtime, and optimize query performance under load.

• Lead observability enhancements by instrumenting services with OpenTelemetry, defining SLOs, and ensuring operators can troubleshoot issues in scenarios where SentinelOne has limited visibility.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of backend engineering experience with Python in a production microservices setting, including in-depth knowledge of Flask, SQLAlchemy, and async concurrency models (gevent or asyncio).

• Practical experience in packaging and deploying containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes, including creating Helm charts and understanding upgrade pathways across multiple deployed versions.

• Robust PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, query optimization, and crafting zero-downtime migration scripts using Alembic or similar tools.

• Experience in constructing and managing gRPC and REST APIs with explicit versioning strategies, ideally in environments where breaking changes are significant.

• Comprehensive understanding of observability: structured logging, distributed tracing using OpenTelemetry or equivalent, and creating dashboards in Grafana or comparable tools.
