Staff Backend Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.

📋 Description

• Identify and implement enhancements to the codebase that facilitate rapid development and safe deployments for both human developers and AI agents.

• Collaborate with a team of senior engineers in a flexible environment driven by trust and autonomy.

• Facilitate decision-making and build consensus asynchronously through meticulous documentation and specifications.

• Take ownership of features throughout their lifecycle—from backend systems to the user-facing interface. While your primary focus will be on backend development, you should be prepared to leverage AI tools to navigate the stack as necessary. Our priority is your ability to deliver a complete feature rather than your ability to recall React syntax.

• Design scalable solutions and foundational frameworks that enable efficient launches of new partner experiences.

• Engage directly with Product Managers and business partners to shape and refine our development roadmap. Your insights and technical vision are valued.

• Work collaboratively with a diverse team, providing and receiving feedback to foster growth.

• A natural inclination to bravely explore unfamiliar codebases and produce results swiftly.

• Strong product-oriented mindset—your understanding of quality and architecture is rooted in customer experience rather than purely technical sophistication.

• The capability to guide AI agents and automated workflows in the development and maintenance of complex systems, along with the discernment to know when to intervene and when to allow them autonomy.

• Experience in establishing the guardrails and feedback mechanisms necessary for maintaining productive and reliable AI-assisted development.

• Proficiency in, or a strong willingness to learn, distributed system development using Scala.

• The ability to articulate not only your approach to solving a problem but also the rationale behind it and the trade-offs involved.
