Staff Backend Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Identify and implement enhancements to the codebase that facilitate swift and secure operations for both human developers and AI agents.

• Collaborate with a team of seasoned engineers in a low-process setting that emphasizes trust and autonomy.

• Foster decision-making and consensus asynchronously through clear documentation and specifications.

• Take ownership of features from inception to completion — covering backend systems to partner-facing interfaces. Your primary focus will be on backend work, although you'll leverage AI tools to navigate the stack as needed. What matters is your ability to deliver a complete feature, not simply your proficiency in writing production-grade React from memory.

• Design scalable solutions and foundational frameworks that enable the efficient launch of new partner experiences.

• Engage directly with product managers and business partners to establish and refine our roadmap. Your insights and technical vision are valuable.

• Work alongside a diverse team, providing and receiving constructive feedback to promote growth.

• Strong product-oriented mindset — your understanding of quality and architecture is rooted in customer experience rather than mere technical elegance.

• The capability to guide AI agents and automated workflows in building and maintaining complex systems, along with the discernment to know when to intervene and when to let them operate independently.

• Experience in establishing guardrails and feedback mechanisms that ensure AI-assisted development remains productive and reliable.

• Proficiency in distributed system development using Scala, or a strong willingness to attain mastery in this area.

• The ability to articulate not only your approach to problem-solving but also the reasoning behind it, including the trade-offs involved.
