Senior Software Engineer, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• You will be integrated within one or more workstreams that focus on digital payments engineering, with responsibilities that may include:

• Developing and implementing enterprise-level performance testing strategies for payment processing services, establishing frameworks, tools, and success criteria from the ground up.

• Detecting performance bottlenecks in both legacy and modern service layers and driving quantifiable improvements through analysis and targeted optimization efforts.

• Instrumenting and validating services operating on Java, Oracle, Tomcat, and WebSphere, as well as modern workloads utilizing PostgreSQL and OpenShift.

• Collaborating with backend engineers to ensure scalability requirements are satisfied across all environments before release.

• Converting performance insights into clear recommendations for engineering leads and stakeholders.

• Creating and maintaining full-stack backend services that facilitate card network integration, primarily working with Java, PostgreSQL, and the OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).

• Contributing to application modernization initiatives, migrating and re-platforming services from legacy infrastructures to cloud-native environments.

• Utilizing AI-assisted development tools (including GitHub Copilot) to enhance development speed and improve code quality.

• Engaging in code reviews, architectural discussions, and cross-team technical planning sessions.

• Working with event-driven services on OpenShift and Oracle and PostgreSQL backends to support data lifecycle and compliance needs.

• Acting as a versatile, senior contributor across teams where engineering expertise and experience are most required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience, predominantly in Java.

• Strong working knowledge of relational databases, with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL being essential.

• Experience in deploying and managing services in containerized environments (OpenShift, Kubernetes, or similar).

• Familiarity with legacy enterprise application servers, with experience in Tomcat and/or WebSphere considered a plus.

• At least one enterprise-level performance testing engagement, including strategy definition, tool selection, test execution, and presentation of findings.

• Proven experience in performance profiling, load testing, and bottleneck resolution within high-throughput, distributed systems.

• Capability to design logical, streamlined testing frameworks from scratch and operate with minimal supervision.

• A background in digital payments, card processing, or financial services technology is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of PCI compliance requirements and secure data handling practices.

• Familiarity with event-driven architecture patterns and OpenShift-based eventing.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in large, matrixed program environments with multiple teams and stakeholders.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to simplify technical complexities for non-technical audiences.

• Comfortable working in environments with changing requirements and ambiguity.
