Staff Backend Engineer, Go, Continuous Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical execution on the CD platform: break down intricate architectural designs into manageable, deliverable tasks and lead the team to deliver high-quality results with confidence.

• Address complex engineering challenges and provide architectural insights that influence the evolution of the system.

• Establish and uphold the technical standards across the codebase through code reviews, mentorship, and leading by example.

• Guide engineers of all experience levels, assisting them in enhancing their technical skills and tackling challenging issues.

• Serve as the representative for the CD team in interdisciplinary engineering discussions and contribute to the creation of written technical proposals and architectural documents.

• Engage in on-call rotations to help meet the availability targets for GitLab.com.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in developing backend services in Go, with a proven history in high-scale production environments.

• Established expertise in the design of distributed systems, including durable workflow execution, state persistence, and event-driven architectures.

• Significant experience leading or contributing to release orchestration, deployment automation, or continuous delivery systems at a large scale.

• Comprehensive hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments, including progressive delivery methodologies such as blue/green and canary deployments.

• Strong familiarity with GitOps workflows and associated tools.

• Experience with policy-based governance in software delivery processes.

• Demonstrated capability to translate intricate architecture into clear, actionable engineering tasks for a team.

• Proven ability to integrate AI tools into daily engineering practices to enhance efficiency and quality.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a preference for asynchronous, documentation-focused methods.

• Highly self-motivated and self-managing, demonstrating strong organizational judgment and a positive approach to ambiguity.
