Staff Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture and domain model for essential platform components, such as transactions, portfolios, and money movement.

• Make critical technical decisions and hold responsibility for their outcomes.

• Develop production code throughout the stack and lead by example through your contributions.

• Establish engineering standards for testing, code review, observability, and deployment.

• Decompose complex problems into actionable tasks and assist team members in overcoming obstacles.

• Guide and mentor engineers to enhance the team's overall capability.

• Collaborate closely with product teams and leadership to determine what to build and the rationale behind it.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in building production software, demonstrating a track record of impactful contributions at a staff level.

• A blend of product and systems thinking, with a full-stack perspective and experience with user-facing products.

• Proven technical leadership by establishing direction, standards, and providing mentorship.

• An entrepreneurial spirit with a willingness to navigate ambiguity and take ownership of results.

• Proficient in React and TypeScript/Node.js or JVM technologies (Java/Kotlin).

• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL and data modeling.

• High level of autonomy and experience in startup environments.

• Exceptional ability to communicate technical trade-offs to both engineers and stakeholders.

• In-depth knowledge of financial system accuracy, including ledgers, settlement, reconciliation, and idempotency.

• Experience in the private markets, investment platforms, or securities domains.

• Background as an early engineer at a startup that has successfully scaled.
