Staff Backend Engineer – Admin Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical vision for backend services and APIs that facilitate user access, account hierarchies, settings, and administrative workflows.

• Spearhead the architecture and implementation of cross-functional initiatives focusing on authorization, tenant boundaries, and the secure evolution of customer account models.

• Stay actively engaged with production code while providing guidance on design choices, technical trade-offs, and team delivery.

• Elevate standards for API quality, testing, security, observability, deployment practices, and operational preparedness.

• Collaborate with Product and related teams to synchronize interfaces and maintain consistency in administration capabilities across NodeZero.

• Mentor and inspire engineers through design evaluations, code assessments, collaborative coding, and technical documentation.

• Investigate intricate production challenges and implement enhancements to avert future occurrences.

• Develop and enhance NodeZero's account administration features, including user access, parent-child account controls, account settings, roles, access controls, and audit logs.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial expertise in constructing production backend systems.

• Proven record of steering technical direction or architecture for intricate services, APIs, or platform functionalities.

• Strong background in distributed or multi-tenant systems, data modeling, SQL, and production reliability.

• Capability to influence technical decisions across teams and articulate architecture and trade-offs effectively.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and enhancing the quality and consistency of engineering methodologies.

• Extensive experience in building backend services using modern programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript.

• Proficient in SQL and relational data storage, API design (REST or GraphQL), and cloud-hosted production services.

• Familiarity with containerized services like Docker and with testing and operational practices for client-facing systems.

• Knowledge of RBAC, SSO, account hierarchies, delegated administration, auditability, or identity and access management.

• Experience with PostgreSQL, AWS, Kubernetes, feature flags, and observability tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.

• Background in cybersecurity or a customer-facing SaaS platform with sophisticated tenant models.

• Willingness to travel up to 5%.
