Special Projects Solar O&M Technician, Level 2

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Lead by example in fostering a safety-oriented culture across all facets of special project work.

• Execute approved hazardous electrical energy control procedures and determine the appropriate PPE required for each task.

• Actively engage in and evaluate Pre-Job Briefs and Job Safety Analyses (JSA); utilize personal LOTO as a worker or serve as the work leader when authorized.

• Assist in planning and executing special projects while ensuring strict compliance with project procedures and guidelines.

• Conduct thorough visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections, testing, and advanced preventative maintenance on various commercial and industrial PV systems.

• Carry out on-site work observations, inspections, and provide technical guidance when necessary.

• Supervise and assist subcontracted labor and junior technicians on-site to guarantee that work adheres to quality, performance, and safety standards.

• Utilize Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) to pinpoint system performance issues and perform detailed diagnostics.

• Independently identify and resolve system and operational issues while safely operating in 600Vac and 1500Vdc environments without direct supervision.

• Support the Director of Special Projects in monitoring and communicating project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and in crafting accurate technical client proposals.

• Document and report all faults, deficiencies, and nonconformances detected during site activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; a technical degree or certification in an electrical field is highly preferred.

• Experience: A minimum of 2 to 4 years of proven experience working with electrical systems, particularly in solar O&M, installation, or commissioning.

• Technical Skills: Proven knowledge of electrical systems, solar energy principles, grid-tied systems, power generation, and solar technologies.

• Certifications: OSHA 10-Hour certification is required (OSHA 30-Hour preferred). NFPA 70e certification is favored. FAA Part 107 Certification (and experience operating drones for aerial thermographic purposes) is advantageous. NABCEP certification (PV Installer or PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist) is a plus.

• Requirements: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are necessary.
